So What?
1) The Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) compiled data for the number of MRI (Magnetic
Resonance Imaging) units per million population and the average annual spending on health care in several countries.
2) Overall, there is pretty good correlation between the number of MRI units and the average annual spending on health care
across these countries. In general, the more MRI units in a particular country, the more spent annually on health care. Since no
cause and effect is implied, this also can be looked at the other way around; the more spent annually on health care, the more
MRI units there are in a particular country.
3) The US far and away has the most MRI units at nearly 22 per million population and the highest annual health expenditure at
about $5700.
4) Iceland is able to afford nearly 79% (17) of the MRI units per million population as the US, while spending 55% (about $3200)
of what the US spends.
5) At the other end of the spectrum, Mexico has only 1.3 MRI units per million population while annually spending $600 per
person.
