So What?
1) The Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) compiled data for life expectancy at birth and the
percent of the population over age 15 who smoke tobacco daily.
2) No data was collected for Australia, Austria, the Czech Republic, France, Greece, Ireland, Korea, Mexico, Poland, Portugal,
the Slovak Republic, or Switzerland.
3) Generally, most results group between 77.5 to 81 years of age and a wide range of tobacco use from 17% to 33% of the
population over age 15.
4) Within the main grouping, possibly a very slight negative correlation between life expectancy and tobacco use, with higher
tobacco use related to slightly lower life expectancy.
5) Results for the US are at the lower end of the grouping in life expectancy and nearly the lowest tobacco use.
6) Japan has the highest life expectancy but nearly the highest tobacco use at over 30% of the population over 15 years of age.
7) Luxembourg has the highest per capita tobacco use of the countries studied.
8) Turkey has very high tobacco use and the lowest life expectancy of the countries studied.
