U.S. Federal Govt Employment By Dept Excluding Defense
So What?

1) Large vague category of 'Other' U.S. Federal Employees

2) Even excluding the large Defense Department category, there are still large numbers of employees supporting former
Defense employees in the Veterans Affairs department, beginning with returning World War II service people.

3) Very large growth in the Health and Human Services, Education, and Social Security Administration from 1940 to 1980. It has
since dropped somewhat.

4) Large spike in Transportation employment after Sept 11, 2001 attacks in U.S.

5) Large jump in Homeland Security employment after Sept 11, 2001 attacks in U.S.
