Farm Subsidies as a Percent of USDA Budget
So What?

1) The Environmental Working Group studied how much the U.S. Government paid farmers under various subsidy programs
between 1995 and 2006. The U.S. Department of Agriculture budget is viewable as part of the U.S. Federal Government
budget. This chart shows how much of the USDA budget is consumed by farm subsidies.

2) Due to the widely varying nature of the farm subsidies (see
chart), the percent of the USDA budget consumed by subsidies
has varied from about 13% in 1995-97 to nearly 35% in 1999.
