So What?

1) In this chart, the U.S. Department of Agriculture budget has been corrected for inflation to indicate constant-buying power
(real) FY2000 dollar value over time, then divided by the U.S. resident population to get the budget per resident.

2) From 1965 through 1974, the U.S. Department of Agriculture real (inflation adjusted) budget hovered around $175 per
resident. From 1975 through 1978, the budget increased to about $325 per resident. From 1987 to 1994, it dropped to
approximately $225 per resident. From 2004 to 2006, the budget has increased back up to about $260 per resident.
