1) This chart shows FY2008 U.S. Federal Government spending per capita (per resident) for each U.S. county as compiled by the U.S. Census Bureau.
2) Higher levels of spending per resident support rural sections of the plains states from northern Montana and North Dakota down to New Mexico and Texas.
3) Other large regions of high federal spending per capita are central and southern Kentucky; sections of Arkansas, Mississippi, and Lousiana in the Mississippi River Valley; Oahu, Hawaii, and Alaska excluding the southern region.
4) Areas with low levels of federal expenditure are the West; northern Mid-West; Northeast; the South, just south of the Appalachians; and most of Florida.
