So What?

1) The U.S. Department of Education selected data from the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) in 1984,
1994, 1996, 1999, and 2004. Seventeen year old students who took the reading test were asked how often they read for fun.

2) Seventeen year olds who reported reading for fun daily scored significantly higher than those who reported less reading for
fun. These scores haven't changed significantly over time.

3) Seventeen year olds who reported reading for fun weekly or monthly had approximately the same reading scores. These
scores have not changed significantly over time either.

4) Yearly fun readers' scores dropped significantly from 1999 to 2004.
